Key Points
1. In sizing up this calf exercise/plyometric exercise, please make sure you can clear whatever you're jumping over, because failures to launch are never cool.
2. Ideally you're landing and immediately jumping back over, but that may require some work as you focus on preventing knee injuries. Remain patient, and envision where you'll be with this exercise after much practice, i.e. a better place, and a better jumper.
