Gallon of Milk a Day (GOMAD)

Okay so I've been hearing about this GOMAD stuff lately where you basically drink a gallon of whole milk a day in addition to your regular intake of food/supplements. It seems to me the science behind it works, you take in more calories/protein/carbs you will get bigger and stronger; but I also realize you will gain a little extra tubby-ness...most likely.
My questions are as follows: After at least a month of 2000(roughly) extra calories a day how easy would it be to go back to a normal diet (ie. cutting the weight)? Also will the strength benefits I'll see (assuming I put in the work) be worth attracting the chubby-chasers on campus?

We're big believers in the GOMAD approach even though we'd actually recommend trying a product like Serious Mass instead if you're looking for 2000+ calories a day. Only reason being it's a lot easier to take down a few scoops of a great tasting protein product with far less lactose than it is to take down an entire gallon of whole milk.

That said if you're a hard gainer and really lifting hard (read: 3-4 total body lifts a weeks as opposed to a BS isolation program) you should see very solid results in the first 1-2 months. After that (again assuming you have a very fast metabolism) it should be no problem transitioning back to a normal diet.

When we worked with a bunch of high school football and lacrosse players last summer we put those with the fastest metabolisms on 4 scoops of Serious Mass a day. 1 in the morning, 1 before lifts, 1 after lifts (with 5 grams of creatine), and 1 before bed (roughly 2500 extra calories a day). Of the 8 kids who were on the program for 3 months the low was 15 pounds of lean muscle mass, the high was 27 pounds, and the average was around 22 pounds of solid weight. None of these kids had trouble transitioning to normal diets during the season and we'd suspect you wouldn't have any trouble as well.

Regardless, really do hope the above helps but if you have any further questions, just let us know.

I have done the GOMAD in the past. It’s hard but totally legit and fool proof if done properly in terms of mass and strength gains.
Milk is the best bulking tool available. Fact. Shed load of calories and protein. For sure you gain more than a little extra tubbiness, but what you also gain is a crap load of strength from that extra weight. Squats and milk is the king of mass programs – gains across the board.

Also depends on what type of milk you use….i.e the fat %.
I did 5000kcal a day for 6 weeks during a bulking phase – milk was crucial for this. Yes it’s easy to go back to a normal diet, takes a little while to adapt to the smaller calorific intake, but it’s nice not to walk around feeling like you could projectile vomit at any moment.

I have friend who did it the squats and milk who said it affected his appetite after he came off it as he could not eat small portions anymore…said his body was still full and feeling the effects of it and only needed small portions to fuel itself now….or some crap along those lines.

Do some conditioning work if you are worried about your gut growing – prowler etc. However, this is counterproductive if your sole aim is strength and mass.

In all honesty if you are worried about that shizzle and a bit of belly fat then this program is not for you. If you are serious about some real gains then get chugging.
