body taking a beating

i play linebacker and i stretch and take care of my body but theres nothing really to do to prevent bruising like you can to prevent a pull by stretching. i got a contusion on my thigh earlier this year and just let time heal it but now that i'm going through the grind of the season does anybody know anything to help with the wear my body's enduring other than just simply icing my body

I suggest this without any intention of contradicting @12Pack, and by acknowledging that you're already doing some of this already...

You could take it one step further Erik and try an ice bath. Never pleasant, but perhaps worth a shot if you're just feeling completely run down.

My dirty, rusted, two cents.

After playing linebacker for 4 years in college, I can tell you the best thing is the ice baths. Ice bags are okay, but there is no comparison to a full ice bath. Think of it like a leg extension compared to a deep squat! One may be easier but you know which one is going to help more. 10-15 mins a day after practice and you'll feel like a new man!
